Great article! This is exactly my personailty. Coming right out of college I wanted to be an entrepenuer but I got the whole, "No one will want what you have to offer, you're still a child." Or I simply got: "You're crazy!" Sadly I listened to everyone and never got to start up. I don't think there's a bad thing to listening to the "cynics" but sometimes when you know you have to do something just do it.

This is really on point for me. My wife started her own business last Sept. and I have been helping her out. She is the epitome of the personality type you mention here, and I am much more conservative. I can't help it.

We went through a period of her coming up with ideas and me playing devil's advocate, trying to shoot them down to see if we could find holes. This was horrible - definitely not the way to go. She felt I was unsupportive (which I was), and I felt that she was being cavalier with our household income (which to some extent she was).

Now, we've come to a compromise. I've seen her ideas work out, so now I can be a lot more supportive than I was in the past. The best part about that is now when I have an issue she is much more likely to listen, and can respect my fears and will change some of her ideas slightly to accommodate me.

I agree with the post here - don't let people talk you out of your ideas. When I tired to do that to my wife I was wrong. But if you are getting pushback from people close to you, talk to them about it. You may be able to reach a compromise that makes both people happy without watering down your idea.
